Quality Assurance in SLS 3D Printing

SLS 3D-printed components without quality assurance – not with us. In our in-house measuring laboratory, we can measure your SLS components as you need them. Using state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology, we can create initial sample inspection reports, measurement logs, or false color target/actual comparisons for laser-sintered components. For series parts in the automotive sector, we can also create IMDS entries.

GOM ATOS Capsule 3D Scanner

With our high-precision GOM ATOS Capsule 3D scanner, we can measure plastic components in a wide variety of sizes – from small and delicate plastic components to large-format housing parts – with detailed accuracy and without contact.

Compared to classic tactile measuring methods, even the smallest deformations in the component can be clearly recognized with this optical 3D measuring technology. In addition, the digital twin of the measured component enables flexible and precise measurements at any time – regardless of the physical object.

Initial sample inspection reports

After measuring the component, the measured component dimensions are compared with the target data from the technical drawing or the CAD file for an initial sample inspection report and documented transparently in a measurement log. This gives you a complete overview of the dimensional accuracy and form accuracy of your SLS components. An initial sample inspection report is usually prepared for the release of series parts or to better understand findings from installation tests.

False color target/actual comparison

For a precise qualitative analysis of your SLS parts, we use a 3D scan to create a digital image of the real part. This image is then superimposed on the target geometry using a false color representation to visually display deviations.

The color-coded evaluation enables a detailed assessment of dimensional deviations, warpage, flatness and position tolerances. For series-accompanying tests, the evaluation programs created can be saved and made available to our customers for further analysis or archiving if required.

Frequently Asked Questions - Quality Assurance

At prioadd , SLS components can be inspected and measured in our in-house measurement laboratory. This enables reliable analysis of dimensional accuracy, shape fidelity, and potential deviations.

For component measurement, we use a GOM ATOS Capsule 3D scanner. This optical 3D measurement technology enables precise, non-contact capture of plastic components of various sizes.

A first article inspection report documents the measurement of a component and compares the measured values with the target dimensions from the technical drawing or CAD file. This provides you with a transparent overview of the dimensional accuracy of your SLS components.

In a color-coded actual-to-nominal comparison, a 3D scan of the actual component is overlaid with the original CAD geometry. Deviations are displayed in color, enabling rapid identification of warping, dimensional deviations, or positional errors.
